Hide CaptionShow CaptionA cool blue wall color makes this living room a light and sophisticated space.
The couple branches out of their neutral comfort zone and selects a serene, cool blue for the wall color. Then the outdated fireplace is lightened up with tan paint so that it doesn't contrast so much with the walls. All the dark wood trim is painted off-white, after being sanded and primed, for a fresher, cleaner look. The mantle remains a natural wood color to tie in with the hardwood floor. To turn the sunroom area into a comfy reading nook, a window bench is built and topped with a cushion and throw pillows in coordinating chintz fabrics in spring colors. The completed makeover is light, breezy and sophisticated, without the harsh contrast the room had before.
