Spacious Bedroom Becomes Master Retreat

Colleen Speer and Gerald Saavedra have lived in their home for over a year, but their master bedroom still lacks a style direction. The design team comes up with a plan to give them a suite retreat for less than $1,000.

A soothing blue color ties together the bedroom to the already remodeled master bath, which has lots of custom tile work in various shades of blue. The bed is repositioned so that it is opposite the fireplace. Custom silk draperies behind the bed define it as a focal point in the room while camouflaging the closet doors and creating a dressing area for the couple. Matching furniture and a headboard for the bed give the space function and definitive style. Here's how the team got it done for less than $1,000.
