Cherry and chrome barstools became the inspiration for a kitchens redesign in this Fantasy Tour. Designer Ward Harris used the same materials inside and out this Paradise Valley home, including flagstone, slate and river rock, as well as wood and chrome in the kitchen.
- The cherry wood of the barstools was repeated in the cherry cabinets. The burgundy swirls in the granite used for the countertops picks up the cherry tones of the wood.
- The chrome legs of the barstool dictated the used of chrome hardware and stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel halogen light fixtures provide the same reflective quality.
- The round shape of the stool can also be seen in the circular cantilevered eating area attached to the end of the island and in the round shape of the breakfast table.
- Commercial-quality appliances in stainless steel add a professional look to the kitchen, as does the quilted stainless steel backsplash. A stainless steel service door was used for the pantry door, and a stainless service door with a porthole was used for the door to the garage.
- The unusual island serves as a preparation and serving area. It houses a warming drawer and prep sink, and floats on an elevated toe kick made from the same stone used for the homes exterior walls.
- The round eating area attached to the island has a tall chrome center pole to which are attached lazy-Susan-like chrome baskets that swing around, holding display bottles as well as frequently used condiments.
- Copper, native to the area, is used as a facing for the skylights and for the round dining table that overlooks a fountain and pond around which grow a variety of kitchen herbs.
