This basic bachelor apartment needed some designer attention. New furniture, fabrics and accessories come together for a masculine new look.
Design Details
Lee Snijders, Summer Baltzer and Charles Burbridge tackle a living room for two bachelors in hopes of giving them some much-needed style. Here's how they do it:
Paint - $65 - The walls are painted a rich red.
Couch - $200 - A new couch is brought in to replace the overstuffed sofa.
Pillows - $32 - Baltzer sews new pillows to add color to the cream-colored sofa. (fabric: Jo-Ann Fabrics - Navy moleskin 6630685 )
Coffee Table/Ottoman - $146 - Snijders builds a combination coffee table and ottoman piece that also provides room for books on each end. (red vinyl fabric: Kashcool)
Window Treatments - $99 - The vinyl blinds are replaced with blue curtains topped with a box-style valance. Baltzer sews a long panel with a rod pocket at the top and bottom and instead of using wood to create the box frame, she uses two U-shaped curtain rods instead. (fabric: Tex Carmel)
TV Stand - $79 - A dark wood TV stand is a more refined choice for the new design.
Shelves/Accessories- $64 - Dark floating shelves make room for accessories and create a clean line on either side of the fireplace. (shelves: IKEA)
Recliner - $50 - The team gets a great deal on a garage-sale recliner.
Barstools - $14 - Snijders snags a pair of garage-sale barstools and refurbishes them with spray paint and new seat covers. (fabric: Jo-Ann Fabrics - Burgandy stretch sateen 7133903)
Lighting - $127 - Burbridge replaces the ceiling fan and light with a custom pendant made out of linen. He first creates a 16x16 cube frame out of needlepoint stretcher boards, then sews small sleeves in the linen to fit oak dowels, which help to strengthen the fabric. (fabric: Michael Levine)
Plants/Rug/Accessories - $122 - A new rug, a pair of plants and assorted accessories finish off the masculine makeover. (rug: Lowe's )
Project Total - $998
