• Added a homemade canopy bed made from a silver platform bed.
  
• Hung an ivory silk panel with contrasting brown satin scarf.
  
• Hung a canopy made out of cream satin robe quilting edged with brown satin ribbon.
  
• Used the same robe quilting and brown satin ribbon trim for a floor-length bed coverlet.
  
• Made two sets of decorative pillow shams using cream and brown satin.

• On the tables, placed matching sleek obelisk silver lamps with empire shades.

The $500 Challenge

If you had only $500 to spend, and wanted to create the sleek look of the Inspiration Room, designer Katherine Bloodworth suggests spending it first on a dramatic bed treatment, then adding lamps and black and white art prints, all of which give design direction and a contemporary edge. The greatest savings in the Makeover Room came from using inexpensive fabrics for the bed treatment and inexpensive furniture with a dark finish.
