Quilt Sampler

Note: Two of the four blocks are demonstrated for the Sampler quilt. Select an additional two blocks to complete the Sampler.

Steps:

Double four-patch block (10-inch block)

Cut one dark and one light three-inch strips.
Cut two 5-1/2-inch design blocks.
Sew the light and dark three-inch strips together and cut into four, three-inch wide squares.

Alternate the light and dark squares. Pin and stitch together. Press to the dark fabric.

Sew one 5-1/2-inch design block together with the four square blocks. Alternate the next set of blocks to complete the four-patch block.

Cut a 5-1/2-inch center square design (dinosaur, monkey, etc.).

Cut four, 3-3/8-inch dark squares.

Cut two 6-1/4-inch light squares.

Cut one 6-1/4-inch light square (one of the squares from step #3) into four, three-inch squares.

Draw diagonal (center) lines on each of the four dark 3-3/8-inch squares to generate quarter-inch seam allowances highlighted in steps 6 through 8.

Position two 3-3/8-inch dark squares onto the 6-1/4-inch large light block and stitch along the center on each side of the diagonal line outlining the quarter-inch seam allowance.

Cut the 6-1/4-inch block in half.

resulting in two heart-shaped blocks. Press.

Position a dark 3-3/8-inch block on the heart-shaped block. Stitch along the center lines again to form quarter-inch seam allowances and cut in half between the quarter-inch seam allowances.

This results in (flying geese) strips. Repeat for second heart-shaped block.

Sew a three-inch light square to each side of the (flying geese) strips for the side units. Stitch flying geese strips to the center design square. Pin and stitch the entire Sawtooth block together.

Pin and stitch Sawtooth blocks and double four-patch block units together.

Add borders, binding and batting to complete the quilt.

Machine, handquilt or form ties to bind the quilt together.
