Six years ago when Ann and Smokey Hundley moved to Katy, Texas, outside of Houston, to live closer to their daughter, it was a bittersweet event. Sweet because they were closer to their daughter, but bitter because they had to leave the 140-year-old saltbox home they adored in Brennan, Texas. Luckily, they were able to make sure their move had a happy ending and decided to build a new, yet authentic, saltbox house in their new town.
Inside, the Colonial look is brought to life with antiques and architectural details. The living room contains a six-foot walk-in fireplace flanked with iron kettles. Heavy pine ceiling beams and wide pine floor boards were salvaged from old houses in New Hampshire for authenticity. The walls are painted two shades of yellow and washed with glaze for an aged look.
