Host Joan Steffend and designer Barbara Sculati give an old, boring kitchen a funky new retro style.

$82 – Paint
A smoothing paint treatment in a soft butter tone was added to the walls to give the kitchen a vivid glow.

$102 – Cabinets Update
The cabinets were given a fresh new faux finish that added texture to the space. New retro hardware and fun vintage bottle caps added character to the trim.

$43 – Curtains
Vintage fabric was embellished with black ribbon to add impact and boldness to the windows. The fabric was hung with a tension rod housed in tiki torch handles for a natural look. Inexpensive thrift store bracelets were used as rings to attach the fabric to the rods.

$46 – Peninsula
A peninsula made from a solid maple door provided counter space. It is attached to the wall with a supportive brace and given aluminum legs for extra support.

Grommets and beaded chains were added to complementary fabric to make a simple, yet colorful window treatment.

$10 – Wall shelf
An above the stove shelf provided additional storage and display space for collectibles and utensils.

A few thrift store chairs were added to an existing table to provide additional seating in the area.

One large colorful geometric rug was cut into two smaller rugs that added depth and brightness to the room.

A simple swag light provided additional lighting as well as an attractive accessory.

$11 – Wall Lamp
A wall lamp was covered with fabric to match the curtains, which helped introduce more color to the kitchen.

A vintage wall clock was attached to a wheel cover to make the accessory more dramatic.

$10 – Coffeepots
A collection of vintage coffee pots are transformed into art as they are displayed on the shelf as a group.

$4 – Trays
Several vintage trays were hung on the wall to create a fun twist.
