AfterMike Silver has lived in his home since he was a child and as an adult, he has slowly decorated each room to reflect his taste. But he's stopped short of the master bedroom and has asked the Design on a Dime team to help him out.
The Dilemma
Host Kristan Cunningham discusses the design possibilities in Silver's white-walled master bedroom. She finds out he wants an early Las Vegas-themed space, so she takes that information back to design coordinators Spencer Anderson and Dave Sheinkopf. The decide they need to bring in some color, incorporate his kitschy accessories, alter the lighting, change the storage situation and rearrange the furniture.
The Solution
Here's how the design team brings the glitter of Las Vegas into Silver's master bedroom:
- The walls are painted a caramel brown hue to set the backdrop for the more colorful items in the room.
- The furniture is rearranged to make better use of the space. The bed is repositioned against the window and a custom console courtesy of Sheinkopf is situated opposite the bed.
- Anderson builds a Plexiglas-topped box to set on the ledge behind the bed, which functions as a headboard. He adds a red fluorescent light inside, which shines up to showcase Silver's car collectibles. He sands the Plexiglas for a frosted look.
