HGTV.com: How has your son David's life changed after winning Design Star?Dick: He now has roadmap for his future. It has presented him with tremendous opportunity.
Diane: Everywhere he goes, he is recognized. His life is no longer quiet; now there is always activity.
Do you guys get recognized?
Dick: We are recognized in the area where we live all the time. It is a little weird I now have a claim to fame. I am David's dad and Diane's husband. Not bad, huh?
Diane: Yes. For example, when we went to get our passports, the lady asked if we were related to the young man on HGTV. As proud parents, that is where the story starts....
What is your advice to this year's contestants?
Dick: Work hard, enjoy this time and do not try to be something or someone you aren't. Learn to enjoy the people you are competing against. Look at it as an opportunity to showcase your talent and hope for the best.
Diane: Stay true to yourself, be a person of integrity and do the best you can.
What's the biggest thing David learned from this experience?
Dick: He has learned that he has more talent than even he thought he had.
Diane: That God has truly blessed him with a special gift, not only as an artist but also with a great personality.
What has it been like for David to have his own show, Color Splash, on HGTV?
Dick: It is something he is totally enjoying. It is hard work learning all it takes to put together a show. He is on a real high with it all.
Diane: Working like he has never worked before, getting up early and, best of all, earning some money!
Have you seen any changes in David?
Dick: I see David as being much more driven to succeed. His confidence level has risen to another level. Other than that he is much the same person.
Diane: I see him as being very happy and content.
Will you be watching Design Star this season?
Dick: We will be watching Design Star! I am sure this year's show will be even better than the first.
Diane: Do you even need to ask that question? YES!
