How to Make Pull-Down Shades With Beaded Ribbon

Materials and Tools:

tape measure
fabric
iron
fusible tape
iron-on shade kit
pull slat (flat piece of wood)
beaded ribbon
hot glue gun and glue
braided trim
painter’s tape
shade pull

Steps:

1. Cut a piece of fabric about 6 inches larger all the way around than the size of the window opening. Lay the pull slat 5 to 6 inches from the bottom on the wrong side of the fabric and put a piece of fusible tape just above it. Fold the fabric over it and iron along the edge of the slat.

2. Cut a piece of iron-on shade material to the same size as the fabric is now. Line up the wrong side of the fabric and the shiny side of the shade material and iron the two together as directed.

3. Once the entire shade is ironed, cut it to the correct size, leaving enough extra to attach it to the rod, and then cut out the decorative bottom edge by centering a template from the kit, tracing the edge and cut along your lines.

4. Embellish the bottom edge with beaded ribbon using hot glue (secure it to the back so just the beads show in the front). Glue braided trim to the front for a finished look.

5. Attach the shade to the rod by wrapping it around and taping it in place. Clip a shade pull to the center of the pull slat.
