William van Roden calls this his reading/research/dining room.
Photo

A large photo mural, purchased at a hardware store, adds some playfulness to van Roden’s back room/walk-in closet.
William van Roden has extensive collections of books, art and records, but you would never know that by the look of his 725-square-foot apartment. He manages to keep his collections under control with sturdy industrial shelves and cabinets. Van Roden's quirky personality comes across in the art he's chosen for the walls along with bright accent pieces like the red sofa and closet hunting mural.

Expert Tips:

  • Make rooms, as well as furniture, serve more than one purpose.
  • Try using raised furniture and shelving, which give the illusion of space flowing.
