Costume from original movie
Planet of the Apes isn't just a fantastic science-fiction movie, it's a way of life for this collector. Actor Brian Peck has turned his garage into his own Planet of the Apes. Since his childhood, he has been obsessed with the movie. He even used to dress up like the characters. He now owns thousands of pieces--from lunchboxes to masks and original movie posters.

Here are some quick tips on how to start your own collection:

  • Toys and action figures from the 2001 film can be a good deal. You can pick up a 12-inch Cornelius, Dr. Zaius or General Ursus for about $8 each.

  • Look for Planet of the Apes memorabilia from the 1970s. An eight-inch Cornelius figure made by Mego in the 1970s can go for $90 or more.

  • Complete costumes from the original film can be very valuable. A chimpanzee extra costume can go for about $8,000.
