Steps:

1. Neatly trace and transfer the design using gray graphite paper (figure A).

2. Apply a little textile medium to the branches of the palm tree.

3. Fill your #8 filbert brush with Hauser Green Dark (figure B). Begin to paint comma strokes to form the branches.

4. While the dark green is still wet, wipe the brush and pick up Hauser Green Light (figure C). Overstroke with Hauser Green Light.

5. Apply a little textile medium to the trunk of the tree. Double load the flat brush with Raw Sienna and Burnt Umber. Blend on the palette to soften the colors. Start at the top of the tree with "U" strokes, working down the tree and getting larger as you approach the bottom (figure D).

6. Double load the flat brush with Hauser Green Light and Hauser Green Dark. Blend on the palette to soften the colors. Apply the grass (figure E).

7. Fill the #1 liner brush with thinned Hauser Green Dark and paint the blades of grass up around the palm tree (figure F).

8. Highlight with Hauser Green Light and Raw Sienna (figure G).

9. The dotted lines are created using your liner brush and thinned Raw Sienna (figure H).

10. Carefully glue on the stones (figure I).

11. If desired, varnish the painted areas only.
