Make a dramatic background for any room by painting wide stripes.
Materials:

long level
blue painter's tape
roller frame/covers
satin latex paint (base coat: Muslin SW6133, stripe color: Netsuke SW6134) (Sherwin-Williams)
spoon

Steps:

1. Apply the base coat and let dry thoroughly.
2. Starting with the most noticeable wall, place a 12-inch-wide stripe in the middle. Then measure out every 12 inches, wrapping stripes around the corners. Adjust the measurements as needed in areas that aren't very noticeable (such as corners) when the length of the walls doesn't cooperate with the dimensions.
3. Use a long level to lightly draw vertical lines and mark every other stripe with a small piece of tape so they don't get painted in the stripe color. Tape along the pencil lines, leaving them exposed so the stripe paint color will cover them. Make sure to press the tape down along the edges using a thumbnail or the back edge of a spoon.
4. Paint the stripes, making sure to apply enough for one-coat coverage. Once one wall is finished, remove the tape before the paint has a chance to form a film over the tape. Continue around the room once wall at a time as above until finished.
