Richard and Julie loved everything about their hilltop house, except for the outdated, compact kitchen. So they turned to designers Elina Katsioula and DeWitt Talmadge Beall to get the kitchen of their dreams. Two months later, their remodeled, open kitchen includes new features such as a two-tier level countertop with built-in wine storage below, making for effortless entertaining. Cabinets make efficient use of the nine-foot ceilings so there's plenty of storage for kitchen necessities. A built-in spice drawer is a handy feature right next to the stove. A specially-designed lazy Susan has pull-out shelves that hold pots and lids. Professional grade appliances took up a large part of their budget so they compromised on other features to achieve their design. Instead of a traditional granite slab, they installed granite that is only 3/4-inches thick. A piece bonded to the mitered corners makes it look like a solid block of stone.
