Organic Living Room Sensible Chic : Episode SEC-612 -- More Projects »
Host Brooke Channon tours the luxurious, sophisticated living room created by designer Eugenia Jesberg. Organic touches, like the white oak paneling, a hemp-covered ottoman and seashell trim pillows create texture, while a high-contrast, bold color scheme creates interest and drama. Luxurious fabrics, like mohair velvet, and museum-quality artwork worth thousands of dollars add expensive designer touches.Transforming the Makeover Room A plain white living room with uncomfortable furniture goes from hodgepodge to hip under the guidance of designer Phyllis Bowie. The following steps were taken to create a stylish, colorful, cohesive space: - Painted the white walls a warm caramel tone (Benjamin Moore: Golden Tan #2152-40) and created an accent wall by combing it with a dark stain for a wood grain effect.
- Hung soft brown woven paper shades at the windows for a textured treatment.
- Installed three pine shelf units that were painted the caramel wall color.
Replaced the uncomfortable white couch with an espresso brown velvet couch and jazzed it up with high-contrast accent pillows.
Faux-finished a single drawer side table on a metal base for a highly grained wood look. Placed a dark wood base floor lamp with an ivory shade and chrome accents on the other side of the couch. Framed five silhouette pictures in silver, matted them in white, and hung them above the sofa to anchor the room. Used a round natural fiber table in front of the couch and accessorized it with books and a tray with candles and glass decanter.
Created an abstract painting based on the picture in the Inspiration Room using a dark wash of color and hung it over the fireplace.

Covered the cushions of two dark wood contemporary armchairs with nutmeg-colored fabric and, for a punch of color, added red throws and striped accent pillows. Placed a set of nesting tables finished with matte gray metal and frosted glass between the two chairs and added a large bronzed urn on top.
