With an undisturbed view of the Pacific Ocean, homeowner Richard Ackerman says he sometimes finds it hard to keep from taking in the view while cooking in his designer kitchen. "This is a multiple-use space where you can have dining, living and kitchen all in one room," says Architect Steven Kanner.
When Ackerman wants to feel the ocean breeze, he simply pushes the glass walls into a custom pocket.
The enormous honed-granite island doesn't have a sink and faucet because they would have interfered with the streamlined design aesthetic.
There are no upper cabinets in the kitchen, only open shelves that make it easy to retrieve and put up dishes.
