The Normandy,a French liner from the 1930s and '40s, was the fastest, most luxurious and largest at more than 1,000 feet in length. Today, she's the focal point of creative art director Mario Pulice's collection. He's been captivated by ocean liners ever since he can remember. His father drove him by shipping piers when he was 12, and it didn't take him long to discover the Normandy. Researching everything he could about the ship, he found a small souvenir pin. That was the beginning of his collection. After 28 years, his collection of original Normandy furnishings has grown to completely dominate his home— from dining and deck furniture to serving and tableware sets, murals and accessories. Here are quick tips on how to start your very own collection:

  • Look for Normandy items through antique dealers and auction houses.
  • Check period photos and Navy documents to confirm authenticity.
  • Menus, brochures and luggage tags are worth $10 to $50. Normandy telephones are valued at $5,000 and up.
