After, kitchen area

When Heidi DeBritton’s husband passed away, she was unsure whether to stay in their home of 20 years, or move on. She ultimately decided to stay and remodel her living room and kitchen area. She wants to keep the basic layout, but update the walls, fireplace and cabinets, bring in more modern furniture that maximizes the space, and increase flow and functionality. It’s up to one of the three designers to meet her needs.

Before, kitchen area

After careful consideration, DeBritton decides on James Charles' plan. Charles increases the flow between the kitchen and family room by removing the peninsula and changing walls and window layout.

After, fireplace

With finishing touches of artwork, recessed lighting, granite countertops and roman blinds, the kitchen and family room become an open and practical area for everyone to use.
