AfterTom and Kristen Tolles and their two children recently moved into a new two-story Spanish Colonial home. Despite its recent construction, complete with all the modern amenities, the house has a 1930s look with lots of character and charm. The Tolles love their home and have decorated many of the rooms already, but they need some help with the unfinished basement, which they believe would make a perfect media/family room. They want to transform this space so that it becomes a fun, multifunctional space that blends with the style of the rest of their home. Which designer will they choose for the redo?
After meeting the designers, the homeowners decide to go with Irwin Alexander's design because they think that his attention to detail best fits their vision for the room. Alexander's plan incorporates an Old World design by using some of the existing furnishings and added new custom pieces as well. The warm custom bookcase provides plenty of storage and display space while simultaneously housing the home theatre system. It is complemented by a matching buffet that discreetly hides a refrigerator and microwave for the ultimate theater-going experience. The new carpeting, paint and draperies make this a cozy environment where family and guests will enjoy spending time.
