A once neglected backyard becomes an inviting space.

Matthew and Erin King are real do-it-yourselfers, and they've done a lot of work to their charming 1940s-style home since they moved in. But when it comes to the backyard, the Kings are stymied. They'd like some professional help to turn their blank slate into a comfortable and eye-catching outdoor space.

Before

Though Matthew and Erin have worked hard to pull the interior of their home together, the backyard has become a victim of neglect. Up to the challenge are landscape designer Tony Kienitz, landscape designer and contractor Gayle Martin and landscape designer Annie St. Claire.

After an initial meeting with the Kings, each designer has been given two weeks to prepare a plan for this backyard. Kienitz, proposes a geometric theme and his signature edible fruits. Gayle Martin plans to feature colorful walls as well as two separate patios. Annie St. Claire wenvisions a yard with plenty of trees coupled with many vibrant touches.

After a week of reviewing the plans, Erin and Matt choose Tony Kienitz to transform their yard.

Now that the transformation is complete, Matt and Erin couldn't be happier with the way their neglected backyard has become an appealing, functional space with a very inviting look. Landscape designer Tony Kienitz took Erin and Matt's dilemmas and created a backyard that works beautifully for them and their dog, Mabel, too.
