To balance the wall adjacent to the new stone fireplace, Bromstad adds stone and pine columns, with shelves and his original painting of a horse to go in between the columns. He carves notches out the posts for a rustic texture. He stains them a lighter color than the rest of the wood walls, floor and ceiling because a great way to lighten and add a lot of interest to a room is to vary the wood tones. The bottom four feet of the columns is covered with the river rocks.
