Texas Mosaic Artist Sonia King

Broken bits and pieces meet in unexpected intersections in the mosaics of Texas artist Sonia King. She works with Tessera, or pieces of glossy glass tiles that will become part of an inlaid floor mosaic. The center of the comet mosaic is a coral-colored circle with swirling green leaves--all composed of over 10,000 pieces of tile.

Idaho Woodcarver Jack Burgess

Jack Burgess's woodcarvings reflect the abundance of nature in the idyllic outdoors of Idaho. On the show, Burgess works on a massive project that starts with a life-size fish. Once the fish is carved, it joins a giant hanging mobile comprised of two oars, a tipped canoe, and 15 steelhead trout and salmon swirling on the inside of a home's spiral staircase.

Vermont Blacksmith Lucian Avery

Covered bridges, mountain-fresh streams, and tiny towns like Hardwick dot the state of Vermont. It's here that blacksmith Lucian Avery strikes up the forge and enters the rhythm of his day. Avery makes the second half of a heart-shaped scroll for a garden gate--but the scrolls can't stand alone, they must be joined to a supporting bar of 5/8-inch round steel. He attaches the two with a coating of flux and a technique called scarfing.
