When asked to create a comfortable weekend home in Montecito, designer Michael Smith had a vision. In an area dominated by Italianate design, Smith sought individuality and transformed a California Mission revival into a sprawling Portuguese manor. Artful tile in almost every room, antiques and limestone help give this home the signature look it took two years and five trips to Portugal to complete.
The tile threads itself around the living room three-quarters of the way up the walls for a striking backdrop to the beautiful furnishings.
