Makeover Room, after: $2,400Host Brooke Channon and designer Linda Applewhite work together to re-create the look of Applewhite’s design in the Inspiration Room, which is contemporary juxtaposed with rustic touches. She used bold and edgy colors, overstuffed furniture and eclectic accessories for this designer look.
Transforming the Makeover Room
Guest designer Linda Applewhite helped direct the transformation of a minimalist space into a fun, whimsical living area with the following steps:
A sunny new paint tone was added with a delicate color wash for texture (Benjamin Moore: Concord Ivory).
A cabinet was constructed using a base drawer unit topped with a shelving unit. Dentil molding was placed on top of the unit in addition to adding decorative trim to the cabinet doors. She completed the piece with a faux finish treatment for both the base and shelving units.
To replicate an antique look, she added faux-finished garden finials using paint, glaze, sand and moss. A French reproduction clock was added to the wall to give the room a bold and artistic flair.
Old hotel chairs were covered with black, red and white chair covers; then the chairs were dressed with red, yellow and orange pillows. Chocolate brown woven stools were placed next to the chairs, which may serve as additional seating. To add interest, a whimsical frog was placed on the stool and a beige scroll pattern rug was added to the floor. A rectangular table with curved edges was added to serve as the coffee table and topped with accessories.
Re-covered seat cushions, pillows and a throw were added to a bold colored sofa. The mantel area was dressed with a mounted print and topiaries accented with kumquats; several candles were placed in the fireplace to provide soft lighting.
