Modern Family Room

The makeover begins by painting the walls and ceiling a khaki color. A neutral-based color is a perfect backdrop for any design style. For this space, it is the bold new furnishings and accessories that dictate the style of the room. The seating area is framed by a chocolate-brown leather couch, two bright-red side chairs and a tall wicker chair. Centering the seating area unifies the room and gives an inviting feel to the modern design. The new TV cabinet is simple, practical and less imposing than the old one. Just because the room is used for watching TV, doesn't mean it has to feel like a media store.

More storage is added to the seating area when a new, store-bought coffee table is modified. The legs are removed and the bottom shelf is lowered so it will accommodate big storage baskets. The table is then given a darker coat of stain to make it fit with the room's contemporary style.
