The brick fireplace deserved some attention. So paint expert Danielle Hirsch uses a simple faux treatment to make it look like slate. With some artist brushes and sea sponges, she layers in the color with a wet brush and then takes a dry brush or sponge and "pounces" the paint into all the crevasses to achieve the textured look of slate. Heat-resistant spray paint is applied to the inside of the fireplace. (If you have a gas fireplace make sure the gas is completely turned off.) The dark color complements the slate finish and hides char marks.
