Chris and Renee Bruynzeel's guesthouse is cold and uninviting, but not for long with the help of student designer Hae Young Lee. Lee's country design calls for a kitchen area complete with a new countertop and sink with running water — a first for the guesthouse. Lee also plans to add a sitting area, a custom-made armoire, new bedding plus curtains to warm the entire space. Even with some small problems like a leak and two incongruent kitchen counter plans, she sticks to her design and makes this guesthouse cozy and inviting.
This guesthouse was void of personality and interest. The homeowners wanted to warm it up with color, fabric and add a small kitchen area for guests. The small hutch and a side chair weren't exactly welcoming or functional pieces. While the space was nice, it wasn't very usable.
The curved and compact kitchen area is the most exciting design element for the homeowners and will make the guesthouse even more functional and comfortable.
