The couple compromises on a vibrant aqua for the walls. Host Jane Lockhart advises that if you're afraid of the intensity of a color, don't choose a lighter shade; instead choose a grayer tone (move over a couple of paint chips in the paint store). The white trim and doors are painted a warm stone color to further tone down the walls. The beige carpeting has a pink tone against the new paint colors, so it's replaced with a green-tone beige loop-and-pile Berber carpeting. Wall-to-wall drapes in a modern tone-on-tone fabric expand across the window and door. Dark brown contemporary furniture adds a dramatic flair to the room and stands out against the lighter teal and stone colors.
