These two collectors own the Chrysler Building, the Space Needle, the White House, and more, but they're not millionaires. For the last 20 years Dixie and Bill Trainer have been enamored with the details in each replica souvenir building they have purchased.

They own more than 1,800 pieces that are displayed throughout their home, including Pagoda's, Pueblos, Banks, Skyscrapers, Memorials and Churches--all without leaving the comfort of their home.

Here are some quick tips on how to start your own collection:

  • Many companies are switching over to using resin for their miniature souvenir buildings, but a few are clinging to their old metal ways. If you find one of these new metal gems snatch it up, but be prepared. Some of these new seven-inch buildings can go for $400 or more!

  • The price of the building relates to the detail of the replica--the more accurate the replica, the higher the price! Price also increases with the popularity of the building. A replica of the Tower of London will cost about $110, while the Bank of China goes for about $85.

  • The Chrysler Building is a hot collectible. Original souvenirs made around the same time the building opened (this one in 1930) are desirable because they were made in limited quantities. A 1931 commemorative copper mini Chrysler Building is worth $500 to $700.
