AfterAll About
- The walls are painted a robin's egg blue color to set a serene backdrop for the cottage design.
- The windows are framed with painted bi-fold doors, creating a long shutter look. The valance is made of crisp, white cotton napkins folded at an angle and stapled to a scrap piece of wood. The valance itself is attached above the window with L-brackets.
- They make a headboard out of plywood and porch posts. Beyer creates a wonderful mosaic design on the headboard using stained glass, broken china pieces and joint compound.
- The bedding is a rose-colored duvet with matching shams.
How-to: Tiled Headboard
This is an advanced tiling project. Practice your technique first on a picture frame, stepping stone, etc.
Steps:
- Create a custom headboard out of plywood and porch posts.
- Draw your design onto the headboard and cut glass pieces with a stained-glass cutter (remember to wear safety glasses).
- Lay out the cut pieces onto the design, filling in as needed. Adhere the tiles to the surface with white household glue.
- Spoon out the joint compound in small balls above the tiled design. Work in small batches so it doesn't dry out (add water to the mixture is necessary). Create a rosette design in each by swirling a chopstick or end of a paintbrush in the compound.
- Allow to dry, then paint.
How-to: China Plate Ceiling Medallion
Steps:
- Drill a hole in a china plate with a masonry bit.
- Thread the wire through the hole and mount the fixture to the ceiling.
