Designer Lori Gayman thinks low furniture signifies the very sleek, modern look that many people want. Furniture that's lower to the ground makes a room seem larger.Today's furniture is getting down. From platform beds to low sofas, home decor hits a new low:
- Designer Lori Gayman explains that many sofa seats today are only 15 inches off the ground, instead of the traditional 18 inches, and platform beds are going as low as 11 inches. This low furniture can actually make your room look larger because it makes the ceiling appear higher.
- It's preferable to keep the scale of low-profile furniture the same. Mixing high and low within a seating group could mean trouble, but in the rest of the room, it's great to have different levels for more interest.
