AfterThe walls below the chair rail are painted a soft green hue to coordinate with the red and tan wallpaper already in the room.
A matching headboard and footboard are created out of three bi-fold doors, four 4x4 posts, four fence-post caps, four casters and miscellaneous trim.
A magnet board made out of flashing is put up below the chair rail around the perimeter of the room. Susie paints the flashing off-white and wipes on brown glaze to darken it. She uses wood trim (painted and glazed to match) to finish off the rough edges.
Window valances are created out of scrap wood and two colors of polar fleece fabric. The fabric is stitched together then stapled to the box. Nailhead trim and leather belts are used to add a finishing touch.
Two outdoor lanterns are rewired so they can used as wall sconces on either side of the window.
Before this room was a bit too young for this 11-year-old boy. Now he has a space he can grow into and it was all accomplished with a few easy changes.
The bedding consists of a duvet made out of upholstery-weight fabric, pillows covered in assorted fabrics and a bed skirt enhanced with grommets and leather shoelaces.
A music stand is created out of a wooden display shelf and part of the metal practice stand. The shelf is attached to the wall and the top part of the metal practice stand is attached directly to the shelf.
A side table is given a new rock-tiled top. Burke glues the rocks to the top, grouts the surface and wipes away the excess with a sponge.
The magnet board is decorated with framed photos and accessories. Burke removes the heavy backing from each frame and replaces it with basic cardboard to make it lighter, then attaches self-adhesive magnet strips to the back of each to hold it to the wall.
