Living Room Redesign: From Sea of White to Room of Color
Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-1802 -- More Projects »
This living room has beautiful elements including a wood floor and elegant area rug but as the eye moves upwards it's a sea of white. The goal is to pull pattern and texture up to eye level through the use of the homeowner's artwork and accessories.- The sofa and loveseat are repositioned in front of the large window, which helps to open up the space. A console table anchors the back of the sofa. A scalloped-shaped coffee table repeats the same shape in the area rug underneath.
- The piano is placed opposite the sofas to balance the weight in the room. A large mirror placed above reflects the outdoors.
- One of the blank corners in the room is filled with a trio of rockers. The height of each gradually flows up to create interest. A lamp and plant soften the wood tones. A trio of paintings adds color at eye level.
- Another corner is turned into a cozy reading nook with a Queen Anne chair, small side table and floor lamp.
The mantel makes a dramatic statement with two pieces of artwork layered over each other and a floral arrangement repeating the scene in the artwork.
Additional art is brought in on the walls and on easels, which allow the wall art to rest on tabletops.
The coffee table is accessorized with simple elements that will work in any decor--candles, fruit and a plant.
