Jane Douglas and Kristine Porter arrive from the Interior Redesign Industry Specialists to bring a cohesive look to a large family room. Their challenge is to create cozy seating areas while unifying the room with the accessories.

Here are some of the steps they take to redefine the space:

  • The large red armoire is moved to the far corner of the harlequined wall and the two sofas are positioned on an angle to take advantage of the natural view outside.
  • A leopard print chair and ottoman complete the seating arrangement. A dark wood coffee table is placed in the center to contrast with the muted tones in the upholstered pieces.
  • A second conversation area is created on the other side of the room with a rocker and wicker chair and loveseat.
  • Even more seating is added with the barstools and table and chairs.
  • The lighting, greenery and accessories are addressed next. A rug is draped across the bar to break up the expanse of wood.
    Tip: Add sticks to silk greenery and floral arrangements to make them look real.
  • A small wood cabinet is visually enlarged by adding iron sconces on the wall next to it and with large accessories placed on top.
