Hide CaptionShow CaptionA faux paint treatment on the walls complements the large stone fireplace.
Since the stone fireplace is a dominant feature in the room, they apply a faux paint treatment to the walls to complement the stone rather than fight it. On the textured stucco walls, first they dampen the wall and apply a mixture of 1/3 paint, 1/3 water and 1/3 glaze, using lamb's wool rollers. Then they use a rag to skim over the top, rubbing off the color from the raised parts of the stucco surface, leaving color in the recessed parts. The result is a rich texture that accentuates the stucco. Floor-to-ceiling sheers hung on existing hardware soften the otherwise masculine, modern style.
