Materials:fabric
fabric tape measure
tailor's chalk
iron
Steps:
1. The tablecloth is a full width of fabric in the center with two narrower pieces sewn to each side. To determine the size you need, measure the diameter of the table and add that figure to twice the desired drop length (hold a fabric tape measure on a slight angle to ensure the extra length for the bottom edge will rest on the carpet). Add more inches for the seam allowances and the bottom hem.
2. Once the math is worked out, cut the length for the center panel about two inches longer than needed (this adds a little extra fabric at the edge because it can be difficult to cut a line along the rough edge of a piece of fabric). Cut the two side pieces to width and length, also adding the same two inches to the length. Pin the side panels to the center, and sew them in place using a straight stitch (serge the seam if you have a serger).
3. To cut the circle, fold the fabric in half and in half again. This enables you to draw one quarter of the circle by measuring out from the folded corner and making tick marks that nearly form a solid line. Cut along the line.
4. To make sure the fold for the narrow bottom hem stays in, iron it in place first, and then use lots of pins since hemming a round piece of fabric can be tricky.
