He used two different stains on the cabinetry. The built-in wall cabinets have a light finish with an umber glaze highlighting the details and the island features a dark stain, which makes the piece look like it was added after the initial construction. The granite countertops are two different shades as well. The backsplash has a quilted effect set off with separate harlequin tiles. The hammered copper range hood complements the patina in the wood pieces. Glass-fronted cabinets and stainless steel appliances balance the rustic touches.
Dark-stained cabinets combined with modern amenities creates a contemporary rustic look.
