Before: Pale green walls, white curtains and a muted tablecloth do not an exciting dining room make. The homeowners would like it to be more interesting with Asian flair to remind them of a recent trip to Japan.

After: Yellow walls with a striae (dragging) treatment similar to the texture of the silk window panels combined with green on the upper walls and ceiling evoke a harmonious Zen feeling. A stunning Japanese-inspired light fixture brings the chocolate brown down from the ceiling beams to contribute to the space's serene look.
Like many newlyweds, Jae and Arthur's home is a collection of his, hers and borrowed stuff from anyone who was willing to donate to the cause. The result is mix of dark wood furniture, beige walls and no particular style. After living this way for several years the two of them were hit with inspiration when they traveled to Japan. It was a revelation to realize that what they wanted was so deeply connected to their roots. Since returning home, they are no longer able to live with beige and brown. They need to put their own personal signature and style into their house and host Jane Lockhart is going to help them do it.

Jane's design tip: Yellow can give the illusion of light in a dark room.
