Indestructible Bath

Country Style : Episode COS-412 -- More Projects »
Country design often comes in handy when we face design challenges. A good example is an outdated bathroom. Even if you don't have the time or money to totally redo it, that doesn't mean you're stuck with a look you don't like. This bright, spacious-looking bathroom has an air of cool country. But when Janet and Tom Proch moved into their 1934 Tudor cottage in Fredericksburg, Texas, the bath wasn't so inviting.

They added a pedestal sink and shiny metal street fixtures but the rest of the changes were cosmetic. Glossy white-painted walls and woodwork better show off the blue-gray tile. A wall-to-wall mirror over the sink opens up the linear space. It's trimmed out with picture molding for a finished look. Shirt-weight linen is used for the shower curtain and window covering. Button holes were sewn into scallops in the linen and hung on metal coat hooks for an eyebrow treatment over the window that draws the eye upward. A metal shower rod and rings reinforce the clean look. Artwork found at flea markets adds interest up high over the mirror.
