Designer Richard Anderson transforms a messy storage space into a Hollywood-esque dressing room.

  • The walls are striped with a soft pink and warm mocha color (over the cream-color base coat).
  • A tidy storage system is constructed along two of the walls using brackets, closet poles and pine shelves. Two-sided damask sheets are used to create a valance and drapery effect to hide the clothing. Grommets are attached to the top and the sheets are hung from the closet poles with silver shower curtain rings. Trim from old prom dresses is used to add interest to the edges.
  • The window is dressed with a thrift-store drapery scarf.
  • Old prom dresses are cut up and stapled to a dressing table to create a skirted effect.
  • An ornate gold-toned mirror is placed above the dressing table.
  • Two light bars are secured vertically to the wall on either side of the mirror for additional lighting.
  • An oversized ottoman is placed in the center of the room.
  • The overhead light fixture is replaced with a fanciful chandelier decorated with a feather "medallion." Delicate trim from an old dress is used to add interest to the miniature shades. Tip:To attach trim to a mini shade without a mess, lay out the trim on a piece of cardboard, apply glue, then roll the shade onto the trim until covered.
  • An organizer atop the dressing table is constructed out of an old spice rack and a few wood pieces.
