Create a Custom Headboard Slipcover

Alice's Tips:

-- Use two types of coordinating fabric to make the cover reversible.
-- To personalize your slipcover, consider adding a monogram.
-- Adding trim to the cover gives the fabric a finished edge.
-- To soften the headboard, use a staple gun to attach a layer of batting before adding the slipcover.

Materials and Tools:

headboard
2 yards of patterned fabric
2 yards of solid fabric
3-1/2 yards of decorative cord
sewing machine
scissors
straight pins

Steps:

1. Rather than creating a template for cutting the fabric, simply roll both the printed and solid fabrics out, and then lay the headboard on top. Cut around the edge of the headboard leaving 4 to 6 extra inches for seam allowance.

2. Layer the two fabrics, right sides together, with the trim in the center. Pin all three layers together.

3. Turn the cover inside out and sew, stitching through all three layers, leaving the bottom open.

4. Turn the cover right side out and slip it over the headboard.
