It is common for people to wear more than one hat, but for this collector its hundreds. Stacey W. Miller calls herself a, mitrologist, someone who is devoted to the study and collecting of hats. She owns 450 hats, and her collection comes from all over the world. It ranges from hats for religious purposes to cultural identification.

Here are some quick tips on how to start your own hat collection:

  • Look for military hats from the 1920s and 1930s. An A.G. Spalding & Bros. Flight Helmet made in the late '20s and early '30s is worth about $150.

  • Another great find would be a Native-American headdress. They can be found in antique stores and flea markets. Expect to pay about $2,000 for a Buffalo Headdress made between 1780 to 1890.

  • Look for hats worn by famous people. A hat that once belonged to Mussolini recently sold at auction for more than $1,400.
