In the nearly 20 years Gretchen and Bob Gipson have been collecting, they have managed to round up the most amazing objects featuring that lovable cartoon cat, Garfield. All 15,000 of their pieces started with just one innocent-looking little plush doll. It is allowed on the refrigerator and the countertops in the kitchen but spends most of his time in the basement. Here are quick tips on how to start your very own collection:

• You can find ornaments like a four-inch Garfield holding a candy cane for $25 to $35 mint in the box. Rarer pieces made in 1981 and 1982 such as Garfield holding a Christmas pie are worth $50 to $60.
  
• This rare Garfield piece in a green-and-white McDonald's uniform is worth $150 or more in good condition.
  
• Summerhill Crystal Garfield, Odie and Pookie fetch from $350 to $400 each.
