Painted furniture can add personality to any home, and it's easy to take any piece of unfinished furniture and work your magic to update it into your own style. Below are examples of designer Sandy Cruze's creations.

Cruze has juxtaposed two interesting elements — animal print and jewelry — on this painted piece.

She layered green, brown and burnt sienna acrylic colors to achieve the dark, barrel wood finish.

Cruze says a painted speckle finish on a tabletop will forgive any wear and tear over the years.

The drawer handles on this table are metal pieces off a chandelier.

Practice a plaid design on a sample board first. Cruze used translucent glazes to create this effect.

Cruze used fence-post finials for the knobs on this large dresser.
