Project by Shelley Hitt of Baton Rouge, La.

Shelley was busy hauling her painting supplies to her various jobs creating wall murals when she decided she wanted to come up with a project that would require less heavy labor. So, she started painting on canvas and making purses. In this project, she makes a fun "purse-themed" piece of wall art.

Materials:

artist's canvas
small silk roses and other small flowers
acrylic paint
wire
hot-melt glue gun and glue sticks
paint marker (optional)

Steps:

1. Start with any size pre-primed canvas. Ours is 5" x 7". Paint base colors and allow to dry at least one hour.

2. Glue small rosebuds and other small silk flowers to the canvas in the shape of a purse. You can draw the shape in first and then fill in to make sure you get the shape right. Use a hot glue gun for faster drying (hot-melt glue sticks)

3. Use any bendable wire to shape a handle and glue it into place behind the flowers on each side.

4. Add a rhinestone button for the purse snap.

5. If this project is for a little girls room, you can add her name above the purse with paint markers.
