A couple of traditional chairs, faced inward, create provide additional seating and anchor this side of the room. Gone is the rundown rug, and in its place are cool-looking carpet tiles that provide the softness of a rug but with more practicality. Each square of the new "rug" can be pulled up and cleaned individually in the sink. An old weathered outdoor patio table gets repurposed by carpenter Chris Ashe as a coffee table. He simply built a platform out of planks, put casters on it and freshened it up with some stain. The finishing touch is the customized art wall. Each family member crafted their own piece of art that was framed with various styles of molding. Showcasing the art together creates the feeling of family Surmelis hand in mind.
