For the walls, Tracy and Chris choose a natural shade of green, which evokes memories of key lime pie, sea turtles and palm trees. Part of the ceiling is sloped, so painting those areas makes the walls seem taller. Warm, caramel-colored hardwood flooring replaces the beige carpeting. Since the window is small in relation to the room, balance is achieved with color by building a window bench into the window alcove and adding colorful cushions. A third color, sandy starfish yellow, is used to reupholster a chair and to paint the TV cabinet and window bench. Red accents, rich greenery and a tasteful flamingo pillow complete the Florida-inspired decor.
Did You Know? Brown immediately adds warmth to a room. Dark colors don't necessarily make a room look smaller; too much contrast does.
