Living Room Before
Student designer Lindsey Kruger tests her design skills on the outdated living room of Lynn Crocker using a budget of $2,000. This first-time designer offers to update the space to a more feminine and modern room by painting the paneling white, and then distressing it with sandpaper, bringing in an armoire for coat and shoe storage and flanking the fireplace with customized shelving units for much-needed storage in place of the existing brick surround.
The brick wall with the fireplace in the center is the main focal point of the room. It doesn't have any shelves and is currently an untapped storage area for the family's books and games.
The wood furniture is still solid after over 20 years, but the cushion fabric is outdated. In addition, the existing curtains are tattered and need to be removed.
